ABOUT JON

I'm a academic and writer based in Sheffield, UK. Most of my work centres on charity and the voluntary sector - why do we do things for free for each other, what are the social and cultural underpinnings of giving and sharing, and is modern life making it harder for us to help each other. I teach and research at Sheffield Hallam University, write books and articles in a variety of publications, and sometimes talk about politics and wider society in the media.
